kratzer - - Palo for Excel

    Post

Suman, search for "OLAP", "MOLAP", "DWH", "Data Mart", "Star scheme", "Data Warehousing". There is plenty of material. Regarding question 2: Note that you are importing data in CUBES, and Excel is reading it out from there. You can use Excel to load your cubes. In the Jedox Excel-Add-In there is the Import-Assistant with which you can attach to different sources. See also the manual and the Best practices section or just search in the forum for "Import Excel".

    Attributes in Modeller?

kratzer - - Palo for Excel

    Post

Hello, I am using a registered Jedox Base 5.1.2.9975 with Excel 2013 and can't see/create attributes. In the modeller in the drop down box only "Subsets" and "Elements" are available (see attachment) but not "Attributes". Is there a change compared to previous versions? Workarounds available? Thank you.

    1) Jedox is a MOLAP product using physical multidimensional cubes. Ideally you would have dimensional tables linked to a fact table using PK-FK relationships (Star scheme) to build a cube. There is a lot of literature available in the net. You cannot build reports on the fly using SQL. 2) There are various ways: Jedox ETL, VBA, Import-Assistent in Excel-Add-In, 3rd party products. I suggest you read the various manuals/Best practise posts.

how parse null values in every rule

    kratzer - - Rules

    Post

You need to try! Be creative! Many things can be done with PALO. Since it is empty in the beginning it offers a lot of flexibility. (Rules, Support cubes, attributes, subsets etc.) It's not just customizing an existing content. If you post an example here (e.g. in Excel) forumers will help you.

ok, I misunderstood you for the java part. Rules sure help you for your requirement. I would set up a small model with few months, small calculation chain and simple rule syntax, eventually without markers in the first run. Thus you can verify your results against some Excel calculation or whatever. You should get a result within short time. Maybe the STET() function helps you.

Normal users are not supposed to manipulate rules. How do you guarantee that all users use the same calculation syntax ? You also would need a separate cube for each user! What is your business requirement? I suppose you are misunderstanding the use and meaning of rules.

    Cubes & Dimension Snapshot

    kratzer - - Palo ETL

    Post

What is your exact requirement? Doing a backup "Once in a while" is not precise. Is it e.g. when your organisational structure changes? You could archive data in a separate cube which contains an additional time dimension. But be aware that your dimensions vary during the lifetime of your application. You are deleteing, adding elements, changing attributes, etc. This is the general problem with "Slowly changing dimensions". Strictly, to see an old state you would have to keep the old state of th…

Why should RAM be the reason? RAM should be more a problem if Zero Supression was turned off! What happens in the Excel frontend with Zero Suppression? Does it happen with other cubes as well? If yes, does it happen with other databases? You could try the following: -start with a view that has only one element per dimension and then add elements consequently. -change the view and change title/row/column dimensions to find out which dimension or which elements makes a problem. -delete rules for t…

Hi, what do you mean with SAME DATA? Your four records represent four different coordinates or cells within the palo cube respectively. You can get your sums with aggregations in your palo dimensions. You might create 5 dimensions Account, Date, BU, Job and Measure (with Amount as one element within). You receive sums through additional C-Elements in your dimensions, e.g. "Total Account". This is basic and there are examples in the manual and software. Hope to help.

Welcome,Quote: “Quote: “ quoteS.png Citation Why are you adding the year to elements in your datatype dimension ['at Actuals 2012']? Thus you can't specify a general rule, but you have to specify rules for every year.”That's completely true : the aim is to be able for example, to convert 2012 actuals at 2011 rates or at 2013 budget rates. Using 1 element and 1 rule for each of these elements is the easiest I found out, knowing that we are talking about 3 rules a year. If there is another solutio…
