  • Installing Jedox 5

We are installing the just released Jedox 5 and when we
try to install the 64 bit upgrades downloaded from jedox.com/en/jedox-downloads/more-downloads.html
    , we get the error:

Please enter the path to where you have installed the
    Jedox Suite 4.0 Default [/opt/jedox/ps]:

The directory /opt/jedox/ps does not exist or does not
contain a valid Jedox Suite 4.0 installation!

The Jedox Suite 4.0 Addon requires an existing Jedox
    Suite 4.0 installation.

    Please restart the installation...

It appears that the 64 bit download is still for Jedox 4
versus Jedox 5. We're not sure from where to download the Jedox 5 compatible
    version; please advise
  • I've encountered another problem using a custom installation (OLAP server, Excel, Web, ETL and Sandbox).

I was told that the installation was successful. The MOLAP service is up and running. But the JedoxSuiteTomcatService fails to start. Probably the essential error message is in "scheduler_server.log":

ERROR Thread-11 com.jedox.scheduler.managers.PaloManager - Failed to determine connection parameters of palo instance: Config file of Palo Suite not found in ../httpd/app/etc/config.php
ERROR Thread-11 com.jedox.scheduler.service.SchedulerServiceLifeCycle - Failed to determine connection parameters of palo instance: Config file of Palo Suite not found in ../httpd/app/etc/config.php
ERROR Thread-11 com.jedox.scheduler.service.SchedulerServiceLifeCycle - This error is fatal and therefore the server will shutdown.

And in fact, there was no httpd folder in the Jedox Suite folder.

After uninstallation and installing with all options enabled (except SAP connectivity), the folder was there and the service could be started. Is there any documentation about which combination is possible, which components are mandatory etc? I don't want all those components to be installed...

There was no JEDOX version installed before.
  • Hi,
if ETL is installed but Jedox Web is not, the startup of Tomcat service will fail because Scheduler can not read config.php file, which it needs to connect to OLAP. We plan to handle this in future release. Workaround currently is to remove the "scheduler" servlet (folder) in ./tomcat/webapps directory.

However, you specified that you did select to install Web as well. In that case, httpd folder shouldn't be missing. Are you sure you had selected "Web" option during first installation? Did you change any installation paths?
  • JedoxSuiteTomcatService and Win XP

    Hi,
JedoxSuiteTomcatService does not work under Windows XP? It is not possible to test ETL.
    Thank's.

  • Hmm I must have forgotten to tick the Web component.

Tomcat generally works on XP. This might be a problem with locating Java. You can check if the environment variables (path, java_home) are correctly set, and if Java generally works (e.g. entering "java -version" on a command line).
  • You can check the file .\tomcat\bin\setenv.bat for this line

    Source Code

    1. set Java_Directory=C:\Program Files\Java\jre7

This should be set to the path of your Java installation (the directory which contains Java "bin" folder). If you have to correct the path there, you need to re-install tomcat service afterwards (run serviceRemove.bat, then serviceInstall.bat, both with Adminsitrator priviledges).
  • I have checked all these settings. Correct standard settings. ETL does not start at all, I can see the service in "beginning" status. I can not manually start or stop it.
After full reinstallation exactly the same situation. Again there are three logs:
    jedoxsuitetomcatservice-sdout.......log:
2013-04-10 17:39:05 Commons Daemon procrun stdout initializedError occurred during initialization of VM
Could not reserve enough space for object heap

    [2013-04-10 17:39:08] [error] CreateJavaVM Failed

The icon on the Windows taskbar has Jedoxsuite stopped message.

Other services are running and seem to be OK.
I really do not know how to get running ETL service.

    1. Could not reserve enough space for object heap

This points to a problem with available amount of RAM memory. You'll get this if Tomcat (or Java) tries to reserve more memory than is available on the System currently.
You can try to set lower "Heap" sizes in setenv.bat, "Min_Memory" and especially "Max_Memory" settings. As before, Service has to be re-installed manually after defining new settings there.
  • I have set Heap sizes in setenv.bat. Min_Memory from 256 to 128 and Max_memory from 1024 to 512, then removeservice.bat. OK. Installservice.bat returned system error 1058 and "service not allowed or not connected with device". After PC restart ETL service is running. Thank you very much for you kind help! I will try to increase these velues and test it. Are there some rules for min and max memory limits? 2 GB on my PC is probably not enough for this new ETL service, but this soluton will be good for 30 days testing period before falls it into Base mode without ETL.
    Thank you once more.
  • Normally you shouldn't use less than 256 MB as Minimum, as especially Scheduler can require quite a bit of memory. As for maximum, it depends on how much is available on the system (not just how much memory the machine has, but how much is actually available and not used by other programs), and on how complex your ETL projects are. 1024 has shown to be a good default for most projects.
