  • Data limitation if one element of a dimension is used

Is it possible to limit data entry for a dimension when one element is used?

We like to create an cube for fixed assets.

We have the following dimensions: ID of assets, category, year, measures

if there is an data entry for an assets on one category it should be possible that a second data entry for a different category is possible. Is there a way or idea how this can be handled?

e.g. we have a fixed assets (car) which is allocated to the category 'Auto' and there should not be any possibilty to allocate it to a second category like 'Mobiliar' (usually hapens by accident).

    Thx for any help.
  • Not sure what exactly you are aiming for right now, since there are confilicting statements.

    Let's see both scenarios
    1. It should be possible to have one asset in multiple categories => That is already possible by design
    2. One asset should be limited to one category
You could create a simple matrix cube (i.e. one cube that only contains the dimensions asset and category). Then you would "just" have to do data maintenance to make an entry (i.e. 1) for the intersection that is allowed. In the report where the user should do the data entry you can via formula or formatting just give the proper category.
This entails that there is a fixed connection between asset and category, that the user cannot change though.
